After dealing with a domestic dispute Rack returns home to find his girlfriend Gina Gershon furious. She leaves in her truck and runs over his lawnmower in the process. The next day Rack is at work when Sheriff Landry Tom Skerritt assigns him and two other deputies a night watch of two fertilizer tanks. In the night a group of Mexicans try to steal the tanks, but the agents are able to foil the robbery. The deputies celebrate their victory in a bar where the traditional term whiskey for my men, beer for my horses is heard. Rack is confronted by Johnny Franks Chad Brummett the next day. Her stepfather throws him out and spews hatred at Rack and his profession. Later Rack meets up with Annie and invites her out on a date. In the midst of all the personal turmoil, the case against Tito is falling apart. Annie gets caught up in the middle of the drug cartel and is taken hostage by Titos brother Manuel Carlos Sanz. Rack makes plans to exchange Tito for Annie. He and the deputies arrive with Tito tied up. Annies stepfather turns out to be part of the cartel. There is a gunfight the whole scene unravels. Annie escapes from her stepfather. He is shot dead by Rack. The deputies are heroes once again. Annie and Rack become a couple again as the movie ends.
